The international airline association IATA meets for the first time in Berlin / 230 airline CEOs expected to attend the annual general meeting / Berlin Airports presents the company and its projects / Tegel Airport receives award
The members of the international airline trade group IATA (International Air Transport Association) met for the very first time in Berlin for the annual general meeting from 6 – 8 June. This year’s IATA AGM is hosted by Deutsche Lufthansa.
Berlin Airports is using this unique opportunity to present the company and its many projects to an audience that is expected to include 230 airline heads and CEOs from all over the world. Till Bunse, head of Marketing and Public Relations at Berlin Airports, stated: “Berlin Airports’ great appeal for airlines from all around the world will increase with the new BBI airport. We are unveiling a model of the airport of the future, an airport that offers all services and facilities within short walking distance, rapid fast transfers and excellent retail options. BBI boosts our chances and our attractiveness for new airlines and new routes.”
At the AGM, Tegel Airport received the IATA BCBP (Bar Coded Boarding Passes) Platinum Airline Certificate. Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports, accepted the award on Sunday from IATA General Director, Giovanni Bisignani. The IATA award recognises the high standard of the airport’s technical equipment. Passengers can, for example, board at all gates using a 2D barcode which is sent to the passenger’s smartphone. This paper-free technology unlocks annual savings of up to US $1.5 billion for the aviation industry. Following fast on the heels of the Skytrax Award for Schoenefeld Airport, the BCBP Certificate is the second award that Berlin Airports has received within the space of a few weeks, thus confirming the airport operator’s exceptional service quality and professionalism.
